![]() You have to make sure these feet are spaced just far enough apart that the small integrated flip-up wind deflector can pop up and down without the feet interfering. They are specially shaped to fit around the glass when the moonroof is closed. There are two metal "feet" that extend from the wind deflector and attach to the front of the moonroof opening. It was pretty easy, with one little catch. Before we got our Subie, we drove a Jeep Cherokee with a broken AC for many years, so our windows were always down (again, Arizona), even on the freeway. My wife and I probably are a bit more used to it than many others. It all depends on how sensitive one is to wind noise. I'm going to leave the deflector off for the time being and will only put it back on if we feel the need of driving with the moonroof open at higher speeds. It does make driving at freeway speeds much quieter for sure, but for open-moonroof driving along windy country roads, we felt absolutely no need for it. ![]() Due to the hot Arizona summer, we haven't had many opportunities to actually drive with an open moonroof, but the few times we have, I didn't miss anything with the deflector gone. But since I had actually never experienced the moonroof without the deflector, I was curious and took it off. For a couple of weeks, I talked myself into believing that having the deflector simply made sense. Once we took delivery of our Forester, I was not prepared for how much the deflector obstructs the open moonroof experience. I had my deflector installed by the dealer when I bought my brand-new 2017 Forester, simply assuming I would need it, and also assuming (I know, one shouldn't do that), that the install would required major surgery that's better left to a mechanic. I only have experience uninstalling the deflector, which was extremely easy, and based on that experience, I venture to guess that the install must be very easy, too.
